Every now and then the NFL schedule produces a legitimate must-see matchup in prime time. That seems to be the case for Week 5’s Sunday Night Football matchup between the Chiefs and Bills. If you have a hunch about one quarterback over the other in this tilt, feel free to anoint him as your Captain in a different DraftKing’s Showdown lineup. However, we want to build around both Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen and will need to make a couple of compromises to round out or single-game DFS roster.

Before we break down our Bills-Chiefs lineup, here are the key DraftKings Showdown rules: It’s full-point PPR, and there are three-point bonuses for 300 passing yards, 100 rushing yards, and 100 receiving yards. The Captain pick costs 1.5 times a player’s original price, but he also gets his point total multiplied by 1.5.

DraftKings Showdown Picks: Bills vs. Chiefs

$50,000 budget, need at least one player from each team.

Captain (1.5x value, 1.5x points): RB Zack Moss, Bills ($9,900)

The Chiefs are the worst run defense in the league per DVOA. In terms of more traditional stats, they’re allowing 146 rushing yards per game. Moss isn’t likely to be a popular Captain selection, but he’s played well following his Week 1 absence. We’d certainly like to see him receive more targets in full PPR scoring, but our goal is to maximize potential production here while saving enough scratch to include a few studs.

FLEX: QB Josh Allen, Bills ($12,400)

After a sluggish start, Allen has found a bit of a groove in recent weeks. He shredded the Washington’s defense to the tune of 40.2 DraftKings points in Week 3 before coasting in a 40-0 blowout of the Texans. The Chiefs have been victimized through the air, as well, so this is a spot that has the potential for a big performance from the Bills’ signal-caller.

FLEX: QB Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs ($12,000)

With the way the Chiefs defense is struggling, it will be up to Mahomes and Co. to lead the way to a victory. He’s surpassed the 30-point plateau on two occasions, and this is a game that promises another. While the Chiefs defense is playing poorly at the moment, the offense continues to steamroll. They’re tied for second in the league in points per game (33.5) and are No. 2 in total yards per game (427.5). The Bills are playing at a high level defensively, but they’ve yet to face off against an offense as potent as the Kansas City’s.

FLEX: RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Chiefs ($7,400)

Edwards-Helaire was slow out of the gates, but he seems to be rounding into form. He’s eclipsed the 100-yard rushing plateau and caught a touchdown pass each of the past two weeks. The lack of targets is puzzling considering he was lauded for ability in the passing game, but he received five or more targets in five-of-13 games last year, so we’re not convinced that we’ve seen the best of him in that department this season.

FLEX: WR Emmanuel Sanders, Bills ($7,000)

It’s tough to accumulate a ton of targets when Stefon Diggs is entrenched atop the wide receiver pecking order, but Sanders and Allen appear to be rounding into form. Sanders ahs caught five-of-six targets in each of the past two weeks and is averaging 16.8 yards per catch with a 61.5-percent catch rate. The signs are pointing to a high-scoring matchup, so it wouldn’t be a surprise if Sanders received a few more looks this Sunday.

FLEX: WR Gabriel Davis, Bills ($1,000)

Conventional wisdom tells us that the Bills won’t need to dig too deep into their offensive weaponry for production, but these games don’t always follow a logical script. Davis has been awfully quiet after scoring a touchdown in Week 1, but the Bills really haven’t been stressed offensively outside of their opening week loss to the Steelers. With Allen and Mahomes doing the heavy lifting, and a few other high-quality players in the lineup, we’re not asking for a miracle from Davis.
